Why did the chicken cross the road?
...because it was humiliated.
Yesterday was the first time Jared, Marc, Sean, and I got to together as a band to jam since forming the band. It was a rather candid affair to say the least but productive nonetheless. At 4:30 we trotted into the jam studio for a supposedly 90 minute jam, but thanks to poor mathematics by the guy at the counter we were given to hours for the price of 90 minutes. A good deal=)
And thus our (still nameless) band went off on the first song we intend to play at Starbucks Taipan on Gig Night, Casting Crowns's Who Am I. We played it to a more mellowed down simple affair cutting back on the ferocious mid sections. Jared opens this song with a guitar intro to substitute the piano and a great job he's done on it. Marc Vocals on this, a slight tendency to run off key but it should be alright in time.
Song 2 would be Slide by Goo Goo Dolls. This song subsequently unearthed the singing talents of Sean Phuah! Woah.. Good voice, good strumming, and minus the cum talk and you get a rock star! I admit i had some trouble on this song cause i couldn't hear what Sean was singing. The jamming Studio's equipment is a let down=( Overall this song too went well.
Things are looking up well for the band.
The third song...
Well, you might struggle to even call it a song but its more of a jam then anything. But Marc intends to play it nonetheless. We'll see how tmrw. This song is basically based on the late Jaco Pastorius's Funky Chicken. Wait, LOOSELY based on Jaco's piece.
Allow me to clue you in on this song called 'Marc's Chicken (he calls it My Chicken so...you get the picture)' A drum intro preceeds the bass for this. The bass rhythm is basically carried on for the rest of the song. again, its a watered down version of Jaco's. 2 rounds into the song and Jared launches into the first solo of the song. He pulls out an explosive blues scale to open up the intro before the band rejoins for another 2 rounds and Klang Boy Sean hits off on a mind blowing solo. And he was all modest about the whole idea. Do not believe a Klang Boy when he says he doesn't know jack shit about playing a guitar. My drum solo comes in next. A pretty lousy one if you ask me personally but heck its all i know how to do? But then again, its a free solo you can't tell me its wrong! haha... wish i could play phrased solo's but my superb timing is a real stumbling block=( after the solo's, a another round or two and the songs closses. *clap *clap *clap
Oh yea, the beat and rhythm i played yesterday for the Chicken was wrong guys! *sorry* i showed it to my Drum teacher today.. he gave me a shelling on listenning properly. I don't think i can play the jazz rock style the actual drummer played. mammoth triplets used yo! yea, i'll improvise anyways=)
Anyways, Meet (the band without a name...yet!)
