Leaps of a day to a year...
Today started out like any other day...except i forgot what time i had promised Shu-Wen i'd pick her up..
Great...!
Not the best of things to do. Luckily i was up early enough.
Anyways, picked her up left for college and subsequently breakfast as usual. We then proceeded to the library which was sort of productive for the the 2 hours before lunch. Went for lunch and all of a sudden the lure of the Cyber cafe proved to strong..
*All hope of a productive day disintegrates from this point..*
The game was horrible.. defeated and ripped to shreds. I'm beginning to think i'm not much of a gaming person. I can't seem to win these matches!
Grrr...
Lets put things into perspective on how i came up with this conclusion. I challenged a friend to a game of Fifa 2005 sometime last year. At my home..* My Home Turf!* ...and this guy has never played Fifa before. And i've been playing like for ages.
This should be a walk in the park*
Oh.. humiliation knows no bounds..*
I Lost...
Now that i've made my point on my gaming shortcomings it's about time i give up this whole wasted cause for good.
Or for the time being at least..*
After getting back to the library to stuff the remainders of the chapter i had begun in the morning i left the library for Subang Parade for Shu-Wen's shopping trip as i had promised her.
And yessss! after that was done and dusted with..it was time to head home! and get ready for Planet Shakers! Yay...
I was late..
John was late..
I was to blame..
Brilliant!
Why am i not surprise?
*Shu-Wen would probably be shaking her head goin...
"Is that new?"
But thats not the point.
PS was good.. I mean, they're professionals! it's their calling It's their God given purpose in life! God would surely ensure that they were up to the ardous task. Right?
Right...
Over the past few weeks Shu-Wen's been popping such comments like are they really worshipping God or are they worshipping the band because of their skills?
It does give you food for thought doesn't it?
The thing is, it's so easy to feel elevated by the music. It's not even uncommon to be inspired by the music. But thats the problem isn't it?
Just an inspiration! Or maybe a sudden burst of passion as you're surrounded by youths whom like you are gravitated to the music.
THE MUSIC.
It makes us feel good, it's makes us happy it makes us sad... It's that powerful an instrument to our psycological well being. With music playing such a forerunning role in the youths of this generation it eventually allows us to be more susceptible to it. The emergence of many of today's punk rock outfits are testaments of the growing angst and rebellious nature of our generation. The big I, where everybody seems a lesser mortal to us has gained such a foot hole in our lives. We eventually turn to music in hope someone out there feels the same way we do. Songs proclaiming teenage problems, misfits, peer pressure and the rest of the lot. It allows to wallow and dwell on our problems and feel comforted by the fact we are not alone.
Do you see how much of a gain music has on how we feel and percieve things?
So What has this got to do with Christian Music?
What i'm trying to say is that it's possible to be easily influenced by a song or music. Because in this case, we do have a connection as well. Christianity ( to the believers, the non-believers you're excluded) forms the link tht allows you to connect.
Connect!
Ahhh...Yes, now we're plugged in. This is called worshipping God.
Mike G (The bassist turn preacher) who spoke at the concert described this as having a pacifier as a substitute...
...I'll keep away from his preaching and focus on my own thoughts. Just in case i got him misquoted*
We feel all gung-ho, or to an extent passionate. You feel so immensely filled with the music as the lyrics touch your heart. Turn and trigger every thought on how great and awesome God is.
**I'm not debating that that is bad. It's good. Cause Yes, God does deserve every single bit of our praise and awe. He created you and I... We owe everything to him! (Thats of course unless you subscribe to Darwin's theory then i suggest you invite the monkey's over for a reunion dinner for Chinese New Year and start calling Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grand Fathers Cousin's brother's son's sister's cousin...)**
But sometimes i feel we thread the fine line between Inspirational and the touch of God. Because lest not forget that these worship songs are Man-Made. The Lyrics are still nonetheless written by men with of course the inspiraiton and guidance of God. But It is still Man-Made. Like the circular songs we sing that inspire as well they too are Man-Made just not God Inspired but STILL Man-Made.
...I'm probably beating around the bush now.
I sense your boredom.
My point is this. Sometimes we should examine ourselves. Ask ourselves are we really worshipping God or the lyrics? Are we worshipping because the music sounds good? These worship songs we're designed to help and elevate us to greater worship. Ultimately it's us and God that really forms the esscence of our worship. When we can look beyond the music to real author of it all. God.
Maybe we're just getting to caught up in 'good' worships song to feel the prescence of God or a great foreign band to perform and lead us to a greater time of worship..
Regardless of your reason,
Ultimately.. It's all about coming back to the Heart of Worship.
*If i have in anyway offended anybody i deeply apologize. I do not direct this to anyone. It's just a random thought and may be completely bias. But i make no apology that worship is and will always be about GOD. with or without the music. If you're here just to worship God, without backing music, a band, or an instrument..just you, your voice, and yourself. It can still be the best worship of your life.
**I have the Utmost respect for Planet Shakers and the Work They are Doing
***I am not a preacher therefore do not take my words as doctrine as this is unfiltered. I am like you, a student of God.
**** Shu-Wen and I are officially together for a Year from today.
